Getting The Harley FXDWG Fitted For Öhlins

We’re working with Howard at Motorcycle Metal near Ft. Lauderdale, Florida who pioneered the modification of Öhlins performance shocks for use on Harley-Davidson motorcycles.  So, most of what you see here was developed to make sure I fully understand the implications of the different shock lengths / available stroke before pulling the trigger on a set of Öhlins for our Wide Glide.

The first set of five photos will become the “before” look of our Wide Glide fitted with the Progressive 440HD shocks, e.g., Static Free Sag & Loaded Sag with just me (165 lbs) and with me and Debbie (290 lbs), and fully compressed / bottom-out values.  I’ll update this entry and repost some  “after” photos once the new shocks are received and installed in a few weeks.

Solo configuration with or without saddlebags, which is how it's ridden only about 30% of the time.

Two-up configuration, which is how it's ridden 70% of the time.

About TG

I've been around a bit and done a few things, have a couple kids and a few grandkids. I tend to be curmudgeonly, matter-of-fact and not predisposed to self-serving chit-chat. Thankfully, my wife's as nice as can be otherwise we'd have no friends. My interests are somewhat eclectic, but whose aren't?
